Reality star, music producer and former husband of Liza Minnelli, David Gest, has been found dead in a London hotel room.
The 62-year-old’s death is being treated as unexplained by investigators, after being confirmed by his friend Imad Handi.
The Independent reports that Metropolitan Police said:
Police were called at 10:17hrs on Tuesday 12 April to the Four Seasons hotel, in Westferry Circus, E14, to reports of an unexplained death of a man in his 60s. London Ambulance Service were called to the scene. Life was pronounced extinct at the hotel.
A post-mortem will be held in due course. Next of kin are in the process of being informed.
Gest was born in Los Angeles and had a very close friendship with Michael Jackson as a child.
For a short spell he was married to the American actress and singer, Liza Minnelli, although they separated in 2003.
Just three months ago Gest was in the Celebrity Big Brother house before having to leave on January 18 due to health concerns.
While on the show, Gest was infamously and unfortunately mistaken for David Bowie, when Bowie’s former wife Angie told house mates, ‘David has died’.
His death has already sparked an outpouring of sympathy from social media:

However, not all were as respectful, with controversial comedian Rufus Hound posting this tweet just minutes after the news of his death broke:
David Gest? Dead? But he always looked so healthy.

Gest was due to start his ‘David Gest Is Not Dead But Alive With Soul’ tour in July.
