Yesterday evening the Financial Times reported that Rebekah Brooks may be returning to Rupert Murdoch’s News Corp in a high-profile role.

Reports indicate that, a year after being cleared of all charges in relation to the News of the World phone hacking scandal, she will return as the chief executive of News UK (formally News International). The appointment could be announced as early as next month.

A spokesperson for News UK said:

The Financial Times said that despite the scandal, which caused over 100 arrests and the News of the World to permanently shut down, Murdoch stands by Brooks and wants her back as head of News UK.
