The Batman star Robert Pattinson has left the internet in stitches over his utter shock at The Batman being rated a 15.

Actor Robert Pattinson has left the internet in stitches over his utter shock at The Batman being rated a 15.

Pattinson is not only set to win over all DC fans with his portrayal of Bruce Wayne – a depiction reviewed as the darkest knight we've ever seen – but he has also captured the hearts of Twitter users for his surprised reaction to being told that the movie is rated 15.

Opposed to other films in the Batman franchise, which have mostly been rated 12, the new iteration is first movie since Batman Returns to have been given the higher certificate, and according to one reviewer it is set to be the caped crusader's 'most brutal movie yet', which hilariously Pattinson didn't quite realise when filming.

When told by UNILAD that the recent release is rated 15, Pattinson can be seen leaning back, eyebrows raised and wide-eyed in complete shock, questioning, 'Is it? No way!'

He said: 'What happened?! I didn't even know. Oh no. That's a disaster.'

Pattinson also expressed his confusion over the rating of Dark Knight not having received a similar rating. Explaining to an equally confused Kravitz that the certificate would result in no one under the age of 15 being able to go even with their parents, the actor concluded: 'That's crazy.'

Pattinson's utter bewilderment at the revelation that the latest DC film he is starring in is a higher age rating then he realised – despite the interview taking place so close to The Batman's release date – has left the internet in stitches. Many have been left in even more adoration of the actor, and others just as confused as him as to how The Dark Knight managed to sneak past with a lower certificate.

One user joked how the image of Pattinson wide-eyed in disbelief had 'so much meme potential'.

Another commented: 'The look on his face is absolute gold.'

A third user strongly agreed with Pattinson's shock that The Dark Knight wasn't rated higher. 'Good point, re The Dark Knight not being a 15; the violence and the tone in that one was pretty damn strong, I remember being taken aback by it at the time,' they said.

While The Batman is rated a 15, the 'art house porn' Pattinson has promised to do if the film flops would certainly be higher.

Unfortunately for anyone who hoped to see Pattinson make such a career change, it's pretty unlikely you'll be be catching the Twilight star in anything more raunchy, considering The Batman is anticipated to be an absolute hit.
