As the war of words continues between the US and Russia – stopping for a midway break in Syria – things might have got just that little bit more threatening.

In the aftermath of Donald Trump’s tweet to Vladimir Putin, telling him to ‘get ready’, Russian state television has ironically reported on Russian civilians stockpiling food, while saying the real panic is not in Russia but in the US.

A presenter on state-run broadcaster Vesti 24 told viewers of Russians stockpiling ‘fewer sweets and more water’ in a public broadcast conducted while standing in front of a mushroom cloud synonymous with a nuclear bomb.

The presenter pointed out that anonymous sources were instructing Russians to stockpile certain types of foods. Foods such as rice, oatmeal, and sugar, reports Vice News.

After saying this advice should be taken lightly, he added:

It should be noted that real panic isn’t here but across the ocean.

After saying this he noted that bomb shelter sales had increased massively in the US in the aftermath of Trump becoming president.

In yesterday's news, Donald Trump tweeted the Russian President telling Russia to ‘get ready’ for missiles while referring to Assad, their ally, as a ‘gas killing animal who kills his people and enjoys it’.

The tweet was posted just hours after the Kremlin vowed to shoot down any missiles which were fired at their Syrian allies.

More specifically the POTUS wrote:

Russia vows to shoot down any and all missiles fired at Syria. Get ready Russia, because they will be coming, nice and new and “smart!”

You shouldn’t be partners with a Gas Killing Animal who kills his people and enjoys it!

He later added:

Our relationship with Russia is worse now than it has ever been, and that includes the Cold War.

There is no reason for this. Russia needs us to help with their economy, something that would be very easy to do, and we need all nations to work together. Stop the arms race?

In response to the tweet, the Russian foreign ministry claimed: "Smart missiles should fly towards terrorists, not legal government," reports the Daily Mail.

However Syria’s government has been under intense scrutiny for the past few years.

All of the above threats come as a direct result of the Syrian chemical attack which occurred on Saturday, April 7, killing at least 42 and leaving countless others with lifelong health issues, reports the BBC.

Although it should be noted that Trump has added he never stated when the said attack on Syria will take place.

He tweeted:

Never said when an attack on Syria would take place. Could be very soon or not so soon at all! In any event, the United States, under my Administration, has done a great job of ridding the region of ISIS. Where is our “Thank you America?”

I guess all there is to do now is sit back and wait for the unfolding of Cold War part II/nuclear apocalypse to begin.
