Marriage officiant praised for way of handling mobile phone problem mid-ceremony

TikTokers are flooding to weigh in on a marriage officiant's message to guests before the vows.

People are flooding to social media to weigh in on how a wedding officiant dealt with mobile phones before a couple's vows.

While you want to make sure your big day is captured, you also don't want it interrupted by the pinging sounds of text messages or calls or flashing of cameras.

And thankfully for one couple, their wedding officiant had the 'best way' to make sure their guests put their phones away during the ceremony.

The Universal Life Church took to its TikTok page to share Mars and the Moon Film's footage of a couple's wedding.

The caption reads: "The BEST way to make sure your guests put their dang phones away during ceremony!"

The footage shows a couple standing up by the altar, getting ready to read their vows, however, before they launch into committing to spend the rest of their lives with one another, the wedding officiant grabs a book and gives a warning to guests.

The officiant says: "We promise you that there will not be a special moment missed. That being said, we understand that you heathens lack impulse control so in order to feed those inner demons please let's take the next 30 seconds to whip out those devices and take as many photos as you can before we actually start this thing."

The officiant then calls upon the couple - Jess and Chris - to put 'on a bit of a show for the people' so everyone can snap their photographs.

To give the pair something more to work with - and speaking with the vigour as if commanding soldiers - she carries on: "Oh you're in love, oh my speech is fantastic, oh look at how beautiful they are gazing lovingly into each other's eyes, oh pretend vows. Pretend you're doing vows right now. Okay now rings, rings you're putting fake rings on each others' fingers, that's fine. Now something hilarious happened."

After '30 whole seconds' for some papping, including a few points to guests and parents, the officiant then tells everyone to 'put your s**t away' and cracks on with the ceremony. Prepare to howl:

And people are flocking to the TikTok in stitches over the hilarious way she handled the situation.

One user said: "As a wedding planner...I approve."

"OK but only if she says it JUST like this.," another added.

A third commented: "This is so smart. not just for the devices but getting all the jitters about being in front of everyone too."

And a fourth wrote: "This is GENIUS!! I’m SO doing this at my wedding!"
