Six-year-old girl and her parents get shot after basketball bounces into neighbor's yard

A six-year-old girl and her parents have been shot in North Carolina after a basketball bounced into the neighbor's yard.

The New York Post reports a group of kids were innocently playing in Gaston County.

A ball rolled down the street and into Robert Singletary’s yard.

The man allegedly became enraged and took out his gun to start shooting.

People who live in the area have told local media that he chased after a neighbor and then returned to target the White family.

Singletary has been accused of shooting at six-year-old Kinsley White, her father William, and her mother Ashley.

William tried to draw the gunfire away and was shot in the back. Ashley was also injured in the attack and was grazed by a bullet.

She told TV station WSOC: "He looked at my husband and my daughter and told them, ‘I’m going to kill you'."

The six-year-old will need stitches after copping bullet fragments to her cheek and her father was seriously injured in the shooting.

Kinsley said: "We don’t even know the man. Why did you shoot my daddy and me? Why did you shoot a kid’s dad?”

Singletary remains on the run at the time of writing and police say he's 6 feet and 2 inches tall with brown eyes and black hair and weighs about 223 pounds.

Gaston County Police released a statement, saying: “Gaston County Police has obtained warrants on Robert Louis Singletary for his involvement in the shooting.

"Mr Singletary has been charged with 4 counts of attempted 1st degree murder, 2 counts of assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill inflicting serious injury and 1 count of possession of a firearm by a felon.

"Mr Singletary remains at large."

Authorities have advised that more charges are expected to be laid.

District Attorney Travis Page said: "We’ll be damn sure to be loud and clear when this case comes to court."

Police have been going door-to-door in the local area to see if they have heard or seen anything from Singletary.

Neighbors told reporters that the alleged gunman is new to the area and got 'angry with children'.
