The Smiler rollercoaster ride that horrifically injured five passengers in 2015 has broken down again.

Witnesses say the Alton Towers ride came to a stop as it climbed almost vertically before a large drop.

The Staffordshire Theme Park reopened the ride in March this year – nine months after the horror crash.

Several people can be seen trapped on the ride in dramatic pictures posted to Twitter:

It’s hard to imagine that anyone on the ride wasn’t aware of the high-profile crash – no doubt making being stuck even more terrifying.

Eyewitness Liam Dennett spoke to The Mirror:

Everything just stopped. The queue came to stop as we were trying to get on.

Liam was was actually queuing for the ride when it broke down.

Several people have taken pictures and videos of the incident:

Other park users were slightly less concerned to see Smiler in trouble:

Lets hope the people on the ride are rescued soon and without incident.
