ALERT! This is not a drill – Snapchat’s servers are down and its millions of users are crossing their fingers, hoping the social media app reverts back to its old format.

While some of its many, many users are freaking out due to the fact they can’t stalk their favourite celebrity/(not-so) secret crushes, others are hoping the momentary shutdown is part of the app developers’ efforts to return it to the good old days before their ill-received update.

The feedback to Snapchat’s newest update has been frosty, to say the least.

In fact, it’s resulted in many users lambasting the developers, with some even swearing never to use the app again unless they roll back the update.

With the app now going down, users have taken to Twitter to find out what’s going on, with some hoping the developers are undoing the damage caused by their new layout.

Snapchat’s official Twitter account sent out a tweet moments ago letting the public know they’re aware their servers are down, claiming they’re ‘working on a fix’.

They also recommended how users should ‘stay logged into your account’.

The warning did little to calm people’s nerves, who were desperate to post Snaps of how they’re ‘living their best life’ and at the same time, slide into the DMs of their WCW/MCM.

Despite the hostile reaction to the new layout/update, Snapchat has vowed they’ll not change and they hope the millions of users in their ‘community will enjoy it once they settle in’.

However, they did admit the new update will ‘take a little getting used to’.

Their statement came after a petition was set up on Change.org, which claimed:

With the release of the new Snapchat update, many users have found it has not made the app easier to use, but has in fact made many features more difficult.

There’s a general level of annoyance among users and many have decided to use a VPN app to go back to the old Snapchat, as that’s how annoying this new update has become.

Many ‘new features’ are useless or defeat the original purposes Snapchat has had for the past years. This petition aims to help convince Snap Inc. to change the app back to the basics, before this new 2018 update.

If the new Snapchat update is something you just can’t handle, there’re some simple-to-follow guidelines out there which’ll show you how to revert back to the old layout.

However last weekend, Snapchat’s head honchos warned anyone attempting to do so could lose memories after logging out of the app.

So you have three options: 1) stop getting in the way of progress and embrace the change, 2) risk it all and go back to the beloved old format or 3) – and this one might shock you – just don’t use the app anymore

It’s not like your life will cease to exist if you do.
