LeBron James shares health update months after son's cardiac arrest

The Los Angeles Lakers star gave a touching update about his eldest son Bronny during the annual NBA press day.

LeBron James has given a touching update about his son LeBron ‘Bronny’ James Jr, months after the teenager’s cardiac arrest.

Back in July, his eldest son had been completing a basketball workout when he suffered from a sudden medical emergency.

As he slowly recovers, his dad at the NBA's annual press day revealed how he’d been progressing.

Speaking about the 18-year-old, James said that he was doing ‘extremely well’ following a ‘successful surgery’.

Despite the medical emergency, Bronny is still keen to follow in his famous father’s footsteps and has been undergoing ‘rehab’ so he can rejoin his college basketball team at USC.

The LA Lakers legend added: “He’s on the up-and-up…. Definitely a whirlwind and a lot of emotions for our family this summer. But the best thing we have is each other.

"And we stuck behind each other and gave Bronny strength throughout the whole process. We’re happy to see where he is today, and we look forward to seeing what his future still has in store for him.

The NBA star said that he planned to dedicate his upcoming season to his eldest son, saying that ‘the only thing that matters is your family’.

He also thanked USC staff for their support, as well as teams at the Cedars-Sinai Medical Center (LA) and the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota.

The clinics helped to treat Bronny after he suffered from the life-threatening emergency earlier this year.

After his sudden cardiac arrest, the USC student was rushed to intense care with medical teams eventually able to get him into a stable condition.

Days after this, his dad shared a photo of his elder son on the court, with the heart-breaking caption: “It’s my job to always remain strong & to show them the blueprint regardless of the outcome!”

In August, his family confirmed that Bronny suffered from a ‘significant’ congenital heart defect whilst working out.

Reflecting on the last few months, James said that it had been ‘a lot’, saying: “I can only imagine how it’s been like for him because it’s been a lot for me, it’s been a lot for our family.”

Showing how proud he was of his young son, he added: “If he were to walk through the door now, you wouldn’t even know that he had what he had…it’s a beautiful thing to have him where he is today.”

Here’s hoping we see Bronny on the court soon.
