Depp Vs Heard Tip Jar At Starbucks Drive-Thru Causes Controversy

Starbucks has sparked controversy over Johnny Depp vs Amber Heard tip jars.

Depp is suing ex-wife Heard for $50 million (£38.2 million) in a defamation lawsuit over domestic abuse claims she made in a 2018 article in The Washington Post.

The trial has garnered international attention, with every man and his dog seemingly having their own take on the former couple's bitter dispute.

And weirdly, coffeehouse chain Starbucks appears to be canvassing public opinion with some themed tip jars at one of its drive-thrus. Watch here:

In the viral video, which has been viewed more than five million times on TikTok, the customer can be seen adding a tip to the Depp jar - which is already filled with notes, while the Heard jar remains empty.

The Depp fan added the Pirates of the Caribbean music over the clip and captioned the post: "Supporting our local baristas and our man."

Many people commented on the video, explaining which way they would cast their tip vote, but others felt the whole thing was a bit insensitive and inappropriate.

One person commented: "Why yall treating a domestic abuse case like it's a game?? This is weird" while another added: "What is wrong with yall?"

The TikTok user added that the drive-thru is in Los Angeles, but said the tip jars had been removed since she posted the video.

A Starbucks spokesperson told UNILAD that the tip jars were inconsistent with company policy and confirmed they had been removed.

Depp, 58, is suing Heard, 36, for $50 million (£38.2 million), and she has issued a counterclaim for $100 million (£76.4 million).

The pair began dating after meeting on the set of 2011 film The Rum Diary and got married in 2015. Heard obtained a restraining order against Depp the following year and they finalised their divorce in 2017.

In 2020, Depp lost a libel case brought against The Sun over an article in which he was labelled a 'wife beater'. Now, the pair have been united again in court in Fairfax County, Virginia, where Depp has said that he is a victim of domestic violence.

As he concluded giving evidence, the court heard audio of the former couple discussing their relationship breakdown in 2016, in which Heard said to Depp: "Tell the world Johnny, tell them I Johnny Depp, a man, am a victim too of domestic violence."

In her final question to Depp on Monday (25 April), his lawyer Camille Vasquez asked him how he responded to this. "I said yes, I am," Depp replied.

Meanwhile, Heard's lawyers have labelled Depp an 'obsessed ex-husband hell-bent on revenge', and said that she had suffered 'sexual violence at the hands of Depp'.
