Storm Barra Met Office Issues Weather Warnings For Almost All Of The UKAlamy

The Met Office has issued a yellow weather warning for nearly the entirety of the UK ahead of Storm Barra’s arrival.

Just off the back of Storm Arwen, which has still left thousands of residents without power, the country is expected to be battered with snow, rain and wind in the coming days as the new ‘vicious’ weather system makes its way across the Atlantic.

At the time of writing, the warning for Tuesday, December 7, between the hours of 9am-11:59pm, covers the vast majority of the UK, stretching from Scotland’s northeast in Aberdeen all the way to the south of Wales, as well as the whole of Northern Ireland.

‘A deep area of low pressure moving in across the UK from the Atlantic is likely to bring high winds to many parts of the UK,’ the Met Office’s website reports.

‘Strong winds arriving into the west through the morning, spreading inland and reaching eastern areas through the afternoon and early evening. Gusts of 45-50mph are expected widely, with 60-70mph in exposed coastal locations. Strongest winds will ease across inland areas into the overnight period.’

People have been told to expect ‘some delays to road, rail, air and ferry transport; probably some bus and train services affected, with some journeys taking longer; delays for high-sided vehicles on exposed routes and bridges likely; and possibility of short term loss of power and other services’.

For those who travelling on coastal routes, sea fronts and living in coastal communities, you don’t need me to tell you this, but the Met Office says you should be wary of ‘spray and/or large waves’ as the storm hits the UK.
