A Syrian rebel group has released a fake execution video, with a twist.
In the footage, which intentionally mirrors the slick production values of Islamic State propaganda videos, the members of the al-Shamiyya Front force a group of ISIS fighters clad in orange jumpsuits to their knees at gunpoint.
The balaclava wearing Syrian rebels then point their weapons at the back of the terrorists’ heads, and it appears the terrorists are about to meet their demise.
However, rather than being another harrowing execution video from the war-torn region, the video takes a sudden turn.
Instead of killing the fighters, the masked men holster their pistols and walk away, as a message flashes up on the screen: “Muslims are not criminals”.
Another rebel dressed in a white Islamic robe then walks before the prisoners and lectures them on justice and the true principles of Islam, asking the men to repent for their sickening crimes.
According to translations, Sheikh Mohammed Khatib, President of the Sharia Office of al-Shamiyya, says:
This is not our policy. We are not evil. To the champions of our revolution and the hope of our people, justice will guide us, Islam needs us. We have allowed you a way out, we do not seek any fame. If you desire to execute us, here are our swords, such executions will only consolidate our faith. Kindness is the premise of our lives.
The ISIS fighters were then apparently imprisoned for their crimes.
The al-Shamiyya Front’s act of mercy to spare the ISIS fighters lives is a powerful moment, flying in the face of everything Islamic State stands for.
It’s another strong statement, hot on the heels of #YouAintNoMuslimBruv, pointing out that ISIS may use Islam to try and justify their attacks, but their views do not represent the true teachings of the religion.
