Tom Holland has confirmed the fan theory that Peter Parker had met Tony Stark way before the genius, billionaire, playboy, philanthropist ever dropped into Spidey’s flat in Civil War.
According to Tom, the pair first met all the way back in 2010 during Iron Man 2 when Mickey Rourke’s evil whiplash seizes control of Justin Hammer’s Iron Drones during the Stark Expo in Queens.
Remember the scene when a young boy in an Iron Man mask steps in front of a drone just before Iron Man flies in and saves him? That was Peter Parker apparently.
Tom confirmed it in an interview with the Huffington Post, where the young star said:
I can confirm that as of today. I literally had a conversation with Kevin Feige only 20 minutes ago. Maybe I’ve just done a big, old spoiler, but it’s out there now. It’s cool. I like the idea that Peter Parker has been in the universe since the beginning.
All in all, as far as sneaky cameos go, it’s a cool one and it sort of makes sense. Peter probably would have been around the age the boy was in the film and the Expo did take place close to where Pete lived so maybe Uncle Ben and Aunt May took him to it?
It also adds another layer to Pete’s hero worship in Homecoming, given that Pete’s seemingly been looking up to superheroes for years now.
Of course, in reality it’s clearly a retcon.
There’s no way that Jon Favreau knew at the time it was Peter Parker, after all, Sony owned the rights to the character back then and it’s unlikely Favreau, for all his gifts, can see into the future.
Of course, that really doesn’t matter in the long run does it? Kevin Feige is basically the God of the Marvel Cinematic Universe so if he says it’s true, it is!
