One game that every kid has probably played at some point in their life involves jumping around on furniture to avoid the floor because it’s covered in a deadly imaginary substance (usually hot lava).
Well, Don’t Starve developer Klei Entertainment obviously reckons that imagination is overrated, as they’re bringing us Hot Lava – a brand new videogame that brings the childhood fun to the digital realm.
In truth, Hot Lava looks incredible. This isn’t like it was when we were kids and the only real danger was knocking over a lamp and pissing off gran.
Nope, this is a full on first person parkour game, where we’ll need to pull of all manner of tricks to avoid the molten mayhem.
As you’ll see in the below gameplay trailer, you start off in a house before eventually heading outside to larger locations with more opportunities for crazy free-running tricks.
The game’s Steam page sums it up nicely:
Hot Lava transports you back to your childhood imagination. Relive those moments of excitement, joy, and chaos. Traverse distinct worlds, from school hallways to the memories of your darkest fears. This is a game of dexterity and ingenuity, you will have to use all your skills to complete the treacherous obstacles that await. But whatever you do…don’t touch the floor.
No word on a release date yet, but anyone who happens to be interested (and you should be) can sign up for the beta right here.
Frankly, I’m astounded that nobody thought to do this sooner… but if Klei can pull it off, Hot Lava could be one of the most interesting games in a long time.
