The Pokemon anime will be celebrating its 20th anniversary next year, and it looks like Ash and Pikachu are going back to the very beginning in honor of the occasion.
To date, there have been 19 Pokemon animated movies, with the upcoming adventure being the 20th. The films usually go hand-in-hand with the latest game release, but this one looks all set to eschew that tradition in favour of a new approach.

The upcoming feature will be called Pokemon: I Choose You! Which as longtime fans will know, was the name of the very first episode of the anime.
The teaser (which you can watch below) shows Ash in what appears to be his bedroom in Pallet town. Ash then proceeds to put on his famous cap, which harkens back to his original 90’s design.
While the voiceover is in Japanese, it translates as ‘your adventure begins’, which pretty much screams reboot to me.
As if that wasn’t enough evidence for you, the film’s poster (which again, I’ll leave below) shows Ho-Oh, one of the legendary monsters from Gold/Silver who just so happened to pop up at the end of the very first episode.
The way I see it, this is either a feature-length re-telling of the early episodes, or Ash’s story is finally coming to an end in a lovely cyclical fashion – but what do you reckon?
