The Queen 'Leaves' Buckingham Palace For Good

According to reports, the Queen has made Windsor Castle her permanent residence.

The Queen is not believed to have stayed overnight at Buckingham Palace since March 2020 and spent most of lockdown at Windsor with Prince Philip until his death in April 2021.

It is thought that the monarch will opt for more of a 'work from home' approach and is expected to greet officials at her Windsor residence.

Sources say that the Queen and Prince Philip 'rediscovered the happiness of their early years together', while residing at Windsor Castle during the pandemic.

The royal couple were attended to by a skeleton staff and the home is closer to two of their four children.

The move is also thought to have been influenced by the renovation of Buckingham Palace that is currently taking place and will last until 2027.

This means Buckingham Palace will next be home to Prince Charles and Camilla when they become King and Queen Consort.

According to royal author Hugo Vickers, as per the Daily Mail, the move is a logical next step: 'Windsor is the place she loves. She has her memories with Prince Philip there, she has her ponies there and family nearby. It makes sense'.

Royal biographer Christopher Warwick earlier said that Windsor 'was a place that was very much home to the Queen and to her sister for a very long time and that cemented the emotions and attachment that she has to a place she loves dearly', as per the Independent.

The change comes as the Queen was asked to slow down in October last year on medical advice, with the palace confirming at the time that the Queen had an overnight stay in hospital after going for a round of unspecified tests.

The Queen also takes her weekly meeting with Prime Minister Boris Johnson by phone, rather than in person, as she has done for much of the pandemic.

Two weeks ago the Queen had to cancel engagements after contracting coronavirus and suffering from mild cold-like symptoms.
