The ‘Real Reason’ Osama Bin Laden Organised The 9/11 Attacks
The attacks of 9/11 were probably the most defining moment in world history since the fall of the Berlin Wall.
It has influenced everything from world affairs, to travel, to art and it was masterminded by the former head of Al-Qaeda Osama bin Laden.
But far more than trying to spark a religious war, a new documentary has claimed that bin Laden had another reason for plotting the attacks.
The film claims bin Laden held a personal vendetta against the US for their hand in the ruin of his marriage.
Road to 9/11 – the documentary which makes the claims – tells a story of how bin Laden was forced out of his home in Sudan. to Afghanistan.
While in Afghanistan, he was subjected to a life of poverty, which his second wife and eldest son could not take.
They departed to Saudi Arabia and not long after this, it’s claimed another of his wives left the marital home, causing the ‘personal’ feelings he had against the US.
Journalist and author Steve Coll told the documentary makers:
He blamed the US not only for all these sins of history and these manipulations of the Islamic world, but now it was personal.
His own life had been turned upside down by American pursuit of him, American pressure that had forced him out of Sudan and to this broken country again.
They sent him to Afghanistan thinking surely he will fade from the world scene but the first thing he did after he arrived was to climb up on a mountaintop and write a declaration of war on the United States.
Bin Laden became the figurehead of Al-Qaeda and as a result, was the primary target for US intelligence in order to prevent subsequent attacks after 9/11.
He was killed on 2 May 2011 after a raid on his house in Pakistan, though no images of his dead body were ever released.
He was buried at sea to prevent his grave becoming a shrine and was laid to rest within 24 hours of his death in accordance with Muslim rules of burial.
