The horrifying events in Las Vegas on Sunday night were the 273rd mass shooting in the US in the 275 days of 2017 so far.
According to Gun Violence Archive, mass shootings are a nearly daily occurrence in the USA, and the rate of gun violence isn’t decreasing at all.
The attack on Sunday night is not only the latest but also the most deadly gun attack on American soil in history, with at least 50 dead and 400 injured.
For reference, a mass shooting is considered as any event in which there are more than four people shot and/or killed – not including the shooter.
The US has the highest density of firearms per capita in the world – there are 88.8 guns per 100 people in the country. When you consider that a lot of Americans are against gun handling, it becomes apparent that a lot of gun owners have multiple firearms.
The number one country in the world for gun ownership per capita is also unsurprisingly the country with the highest homicide-by-firearm rate in the developed world.
Today is the 275th day of 2017.
We've had 273 mass shootings so far.

Last year, there were more mass shootings than there were days, with 383 incidents in the year – totalling 15,000 deaths.
It isn’t just adults who suffer from the gun violence in the United States, with an average of 1,297 child deaths in the country on a yearly average.

Despite these harrowing statistics, it is difficult to have a conversation in the country around the Second Amendment because of the Republican controlled Senate and Congress.

Officers who were called to the scene said Paddock, who used a ‘fully-automatic weapon’, is dead and said they did not believe there were any more shooters involved.
Police were searching for Marilou Danley, a companion of the shooter and for two vehicles, a Hyundai Tucson and Chrysler Pacifica, both with Nevada plates.

Police have confirmed that Stephen Paddock is believed to have killed himself in his hotel room after carrying out his attack.
