When a 93 year old former soldier in Taiwan heard that his town was due to be demolished, he grabbed his paintbrush and started to decorate the place.
Huang Yung-fu started painting murals over all the buildings, including birds, animals, and celebrity singers and sports stars.
Local university students saw the paintings, and launched a campaign to save the village, and city officials decided it should be preserved.
The area has now become a major tourist attraction, known as ‘Rainbow Village’, and has more than a million visitors annually. Huang Yung-fu earned the nickname ‘Rainbow Grandpa’.
