The ‘This Is England’ gang are back and things look as bleak as ever as they roll into the Nineties.
Shane Meadows’ gritty drama is set to return to Channel 4 later this year, and the teaser trailer gives us our first look at the highly anticipated This Is England ’90, which reunites Lol, Woody, Shaun, Milky, Smell, Gadget, Harvey, Kell, Trev and Combo for the final chapter of the drama set in Sheffield.
After the feature film was released in cinemas in 2006, which showed the gang growing up in 1983, Meadows’ series has checked in on the gang every few years. The two prior TV spinoffs set in 1986 and 1988 won multiple awards as the gang dealt with issues of race, sexuality, drugs, violence and everything in between.
Now we’ve reached 1990 – the era of acid house and Madchester and things look as dramatic as ever. Nothing’s ever straightforward for this group!
“Don’t worry guys, the good times will come again,” says Milky in the trailer, but we get the feeling there’ll be a lot of pain and anguish along the way.
The new series airs in September and we can’t wait to get reacquainted with the gang!
