How do you feel about a certain global condiment which is the heart and soul of any great sandwich?
Well, it might not be what this American TikToker feels after she called it out in a recent post.
Of course, Americans have been no strangers to expressing their thoughts on European countries as of late - take the Americans who claimed Europeans don't drink water, for example.

But Amanda Rollins, who now lives in Paris, has been getting some flack for sharing her thoughts on the way Europeans use butter.
Calling the act of buttering a sandwich 'weird', she disagreed with how French people use the dairy spread on their bread. Have a listen:
Posting to her 725.9k followers on 5 August, she began making a baguette and wanted to pose the thought of butter to others.

She stated that her American followers may find what she’s doing 'strange', but that this is something that the French are doing.
Rollins said: “It occurred to me that French people do something very weird with sandwiches that I think you guys would find strange. This is butter.”
“What they do, it’s like a classic sandwich. It’s ham, cheese, and butter.”
Laughing at the idea of a sandwich with just butter as a condiment, she went on to share how here was no mustard and mayonnaise in a cheese and ham baguette and that others might think that using butter was 'gross'.
Though she did encourage her followers to give it a go, regardless of how she felt they may feel about it.

The TikToker said: “I know you might be thinking that sounds gross, but it’s actually so good. Is it healthy? No, of course not,” she continued.
“What do you think of that? It’s kind of crazy. Don’t knock it until you try it."
Even though Rollins, a native of the East Coast, was baffled by using butter as a spread, the commenters were even more confused at how butter on a sandwich wasn’t universally practiced.
One user was perplexed by her thoughts, asking: “Who doesn’t use butter in their sandwich?”

While another added: “How is that crazy? It’s the most simple basic sandwich.”
Of course, where there are Americans on TikTok claiming that European foods are strange, there will always be a Brit in the comments.
This time, the English native sent out a definitive statement: “Butter before anything.”

But it clearly isn't just the Brits and French who love their butter, with one saying: “Swede here, and totally normal in Scandinavia as well.”
After her video reached 169.4k views, Rollins spoke with Insider about how she didn’t expect those outside of the US to think using Mayo was odd.
She said: “A lot of people were saying mayonnaise on a sandwich is weird — to which I GASPED. In the US we are big condiment people.”
“We don’t view BUTTER as a CONDIMENT, it’s like a cooking ingredient and sometimes a toast lubricator," she also told The Independent.
"Like slabbing cold butter onto a sandwich would feel weird in the US, I know I am not making this up."
Rollins admitted that many comments were asking why Americans found it weird to use butter, and she had to reply asking ‘who do you think my audience is?’
