Tom Hardy Looks ‘Near Death’ As Al Capone In Leaked Pic For New Film

If you ever wanted to know what British actor Tom Hardy would look like if he was a Prohibition-era Italian-American gangster, you’re in luck.

Known for going full method for his various roles, Hardy’s latest project sees him take on America’s most infamous mobster of them all, Al Capone.

In Fonzo, Hardy plays an ageing Al Capone 10 years out of prison who is suffering from dementia, as well as being haunted by ghosts from his criminal past.

It looks like the studio’s makeup department has pulled out all the stops as the Mad Max and Dunkirk actor looks unrecognisable. Thanks to a Twitter post from Comic Fade, via Fandango, we are given a closer look at Hardy’s Al Capone.

The picture shows a gormless looking Hardy whose pasty skin makes him look like he’s about to land on Death’s door. There’s still a hint of that old Al Capone bravado as he’s also puffing down on a cigar. But it doesn’t mask the deathly pale, pox-marked skin, weary eyes and a receding hairline which is so far back, even LeBron James would say ‘God damn’.

This isn’t the first time Hardy has transformed himself for a role, in fact, he prides himself on it. In Christopher Nolan’s The Dark Knight Rises, Hardy played baddie Bane and to prepare himself he gained 30lbs in weight and studied various fighting styles.

In April, Hardy previewed an early look of him as Capone for his Instagram followers. The film has been in development for a few years now, but it’s only recently the cameras have started rolling under the direction of Josh Trank. Those familiar with Trank’s work will know him for the brilliant Chronicle and the disaster-ridden adaptation of Fantastic Four.

A release date for Fonzo hasn’t been confirmed yet, but you can catch him on the silver screen in this year’s Venom, when it reaches UK cinemas on October 5. Hardy will be playing Eddie Brock/Venom, while the character is mostly associated with Spider-Man, the upcoming film will not be connected to the current Marvel Cinematic Universe. Instead, it will be its own stand-alone film which Sony Entertainment hopes to build-off.

While the film is still two months away from its UK release there are already plans for a sequel which could potentially pit Venom/Eddie Brock against Carnage/Cletus Kasady. Furthermore, Woody Harrelson has confirmed he will be making a cameo in Venom.

But back to mob business:

Speaking with Collider about his Venom appearance, Harrelson explained:

I’m in a little fraction of this movie, but I’ll be in the next one, you know?

So I haven’t read that script, but anyways, just rolled the dice.

It’s a very vague explanation – but I expect nothing else from Harrelson, to be honest.

In case you need catching up, Carnage is a symbiote super-villain who loves nothing more than making Spidey and Venom’s lives very, very difficult. This guy is essentially the darker version of Venom; a total psychopath who, unlike Venom, has no sense of morality. Our fingers are crossed he makes an appearance.
