Leading the army you’ve brought over the Narrow Sea straight into an undeserving demise, forgetting your enemy has an armada and flying your dragon directly into the line of fire, retconning an entire city by the sea into a desert… plot holes are so hot right now and we haven’t even got to the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

If the internet was ablaze with hype and anticipation for this mad month or so when all our favourite stories come to their conclusions, it seems we’re now in an age when people are taking to the internet to express their confusion at the sloppy writing which has taken us to our destination.

You can see why people are feeling short-changed when mere non-superpowered punters are given explanations to the unexplained, like when the Russo brothers coughed something along the lines of ‘yeah Thanos’ mate stood in the background, he’s a genius and reverse-engineered time travel’.

Turns out even superpowered science whizz Peter Parker, or rather Tom Holland who plays Spider-Man, is a little stumped, as are the rest of the cast of Spider-Man: Far From Home, who appeared on Jimmy Kimmel Live! last night (May 9).

Holland, Zendaya, Jake Gyllenhaal, Cobie Smulders and Jacob Batalon were on the show to promote the final installation of the MCU’s Phase Three, and were at a loss to explain to Jimmy how the whole time travel thing has affected things.

Jimmy asked: ‘It’s been five years or at least five years since [the snap]?’

Jacob, pushed by Jake, explained: ‘Yeah? It’s is. Yeah.’

Kimmell pushed: ‘Why then are you still all in high school? Were there overdue library book?’

‘Why, why are we still in high school?’ Tom Holland asked, turning to his co-stars.

Watch Tom Holland’s existential nightmare below:

‘It might be the biggest plot holes of all-time,’ Batalon joked.

Cobie Smulders was pushed and didn’t ‘want to pull that thread’. Jake Gyllenhaal, a newcomer to the MCU, had no idea what was happening. The conversation awkwardly moved on.

Now, you may gather, as a writer for UNILAD I don’t have the strongest grasp of quantumn physics or very much when it comes to numbers…

But… hear me out, this doesn’t seem like such a massive plot hole at all. Everyone who disappeared in the snap were technically dead those five years that passed on Earth.

What are they going to do in a world no longer destroyed by Thanos, just not finish high school? Stay in school kids.
