HBO has given the green light for the third season of True Detective which will be set in the Ozarks.
The award-winning crime drama series is set to star Oscar-winning actor Mahershala Ali and will focus on police detective Wayne Hayes (Ali) from north-west Arkansas.
HBO has dropped details of what’s in store for season three, the plot centring around a ‘macabre crime’ set in the Ozarks.
According to Entertainment Weekly:
The next instalment of True Detective tells the story of a macabre crime in the heart of the Ozarks, and a mystery that deepens over decades and plays out in three separate time periods.
Season one showrunner Nic Pizzolatto is returning to the fold as the series writer, and will be joined by David Milch who co-wrote the upcoming season’s fourth episode. Milch was brought on to help Pizzolatto shape the new season.
Furthermore Pizzolatto will be co-directing alongside Green Room’s Jeremy Saulnier.
In a statement to EW Pizzolatto said:
I’m tremendously thrilled to be working with artists at the level of Mahershala and Jeremy. I hope the material can do justice to their talents, and we’re all very excited to tell this story.
