The Turkish military is reportedly engaged in an attempted coup to take control of the nation.
Sky News reports that two bridges in Istanbul have been blocked by military vehicles and jets have been heard flying over the capital of Ankara.
The army claims it has seized control for “democratic order”, according to news agency Reuters.
It has also been suggested armed forces are in control of national media outlets.

Prime minister Binali Yildirim has reportedly confrimed an attempted coup to take power, but has called for calm.
Yildirim has assured the nation that security forces are in the process of doing what is necessary to restore order.
There are now disturbing warnings that social media in the nation has also been blocked.
