Ukraine: Shocking Footage Reveals Serious Damage As Warplane Reportedly Shot Down In Kyiv

The Russian aircraft was reportedly downed by a surface-to-air missile over an apartment building in Ukraine's capital.

Footage has emerged of a Russian warplane reportedly being shot down in Kyiv, with fire and debris raining down over an apartment block.

It comes as Ukraine faces its second day of a 'full-scale invasion' with more than 130 Ukrainian people — both troops and citizens — killed, and Russia losing 450 troops after 'failing on day one to deliver its main objective'.

Nevertheless, the violence has been calamitous: Russian troops have seized Chernobyl; 'barbaric' missile strikes the likes of which haven't been seen since the Second World War have struck fear into Ukrainians across the country; and all men between the ages of 18-60 have been banned from leaving the country, so they can join the fight against Russia.

Harrowing clips have been in plentiful supply, whether it's a fighter jet dropping rockets into an apartment block, a missile flying over a journalist's head while reporting from the ground, a rocket flying across the sky into an airport or, among the most frightening, air raid sirens blaring across Kyiv, a frightening flashback to the wartime of history.

With Russia's forces believed to be within 20 miles of the capital, Ukrainian Interior Ministry adviser Anton Gerashenko shared footage 'purportedly showing air defence systems take out a Russian aircraft over Kyiv’s Darnitsky region moments ago. Other explosions heard and reported around the capital', according to Christopher Miller. The plane was likely shot down by a surface-to-air missile, reports say.

In subsequent footage, it appears the aircraft was shot down over a residential area. 'Another video showing a building I’ve geolocated to Pozniaky district southeast of Kyiv. A high-rise apartment building in fire. Unclear whether this is damage from the incident in the previous video but location suggests it might be,' Miller added.

Russian forces have attacked a total of 33 civilian sites, according to Ukraine's interior ministry, killing at least two children. Around 100,000 people have already tried to flee Kyiv amid the conflict.

In a video address, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said, 'They're killing people and turning peaceful cities into military targets. It's foul and will never be forgiven. We have been left alone to defend our state. Who is ready to fight alongside us? I don't see anyone. Who is ready to give Ukraine a guarantee of NATO membership? Everyone is afraid,' as per the MailOnline.

'The enemy has listed me as target number one, and my family – as target number two. They want to destroy the country politically, terminating the head of state... we must talk about the end of this invasion. We must talk about ceasefire. But right now, our country's fate depends fully on our military,' he added.
