Naughty Dog unveiled the first trailer for Uncharted: The Lost Legacy during a recent PlayStation event, and it looks to be one expansive expansion.

This standalone adventure is the Uncharted 4 single player DLC we’d been promised, but it’s so big that Naughty Dog also plan to sell it as a standalone game too.

So just how big is this adventure? Apparently it’s a longer experience than The Last of Us’ Left Behind expansion, and a little shorter than Uncharted 4 – that’s a pretty big expansion, then.

Uncharted: The Lost Legacy takes place after the events of Uncharted 4 – but don’t expect Nathan Drake to rear his head. This time, the spotlight goes to Nadine (the merc boss from the last game) and Chloe, who we all know and love from Uncharted 2.

The ‘wide linear’ concept that helped make Uncharted 4 feel so much more open makes a return, with Naughty Dog promising to expand upon that idea, giving the player even more freedom and options.

Naturally, having Chloe as the lead character will also have a different feel to playing as Nathan, with a different approach to combat.

Here’s the official description of The Lost Legacy’s story:

In order to recover a fabled ancient Indian artifact and keep it out of the hands of a ruthless war profiteer, Chloe Frazer must enlist the aid of renowned mercenary Nadine Ross (from Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End). Together, they’ll venture deep into the mountains of India in search of the legendary artifact. Along the way, they’ll learn to work together to unearth the mystery of the artifact, fight their way through fierce opposition, and prevent the region from falling into chaos.

While the initial setting is a ‘war torn’ India, we’ll visit many more locations on the course of this adventure, in true Uncharted style.

Naughty Dog explained how the DLC ended up getting so big over on their site

When we began to plot out the story and our vision for the game, we realized we were building something more than an extension of Uncharted 4, and instead, a standalone story in the Uncharted universe. We wanted this adventure to feature all of the hallmarks of the series, from cinematic storytelling set within exotic destinations, to dynamic combat and intricate puzzles. It’s our biggest story expansion to-date and will be available as a standalone game on store shelves and for digital download.

Uncharted: The Lost Legacy will be available on PlayStation 4 sometime in 2017.
