What is the Walmart class-action settlement about?
The multinational retailer has been accused of overcharging its customers, sparking a class-action lawsuit.

According to the suit, Walmart allowed its customers to pay more than the lowest in-store advertised price for weighted groceries - such as packaged meat and bagged citrus fruit.
Customers were apparently paying more for the bagged goods than the advertised price per unit.
In addition to this, Walmart - which has over 4,600 stores in the US as of this year - allegedly advertised bagged produce as being heavier than its actual weight, leading to customers paying more per ounce.
Walmart has denied these claims, but has since reached a settlement to resolve the matter.

In a statement to UNILAD, Walmart said: "We will continue providing our customers everyday low prices to help them save money on the products they want and need. We still deny the allegations, however we believe a settlement is in the best interest of both parties."
Who is eligible for a payout from the Walmart class-action settlement?
Customers are now able to claim as much as $500 as part of the whopping $45 million class-action settlement.

Those who are eligible are people who shopped in-person at a Walmart retail store, supercenter, or neighborhood market in the United States or Puerto Rico and purchased the goods in question between October 19, 2018 and January 19, 2024.
Customers have until June 5 of this year to file their claim, and you can do so without proof of purchase. You must describe the items you bought, however.
How much money could you be eligible for?
For those without Walmart receipts, you may be eligible for: $10 for up to 50 weighted goods and/or bagged citrus; $15 for between 51 and 75 weighted goods and/or bagged citrus; $20 for between 76 and 100 weighted goods and/or bagged citrus; or $25 for 101 or more weighted goods and/or bagged citrus.

Those who do have proof of purchase could get more money and may get pack two percent of the total amount paid for the products. This is capped at $500.
How do you make a claim and when will you be paid?
In regards to when you'll get your payment if the settlement goes through, the court are set to hold a final approval hearing on June 12, NBC San Diego reports.

If approved, the claims will be 'processed promptly'. There could be appeals that could set back the payouts, however, as the settlement administrator warned that it 'may take several months before the Settlement becomes final'.
