Woman ‘screamed at’ after joining ‘pay-it-forward’ line and ordering $60 of Taco Bell

She said the woman began shouting about a 'scam' as she approached her car

A woman says she was ‘screamed at’ after she got caught up in a ‘pay-it-forward’ line at Taco Bell.

For those unfamiliar with the concept, paying-it-forward at a drive-thru involves paying for the person who is behind you in the queue - as the person has already placed their order, the cashier is able to charge you accordingly.

The idea is that it’s a simple way to spread a bit of kindness, which is pretty sweet, right?

Except it didn’t quite work out like that for Meredith Donovan, who took to TikTok to share that one Taco Bell customer was not impressed with her $60 order.

In the clip, Donovan explained: “So I got screamed at at the Taco Bell drive-thru. Basically I pulled up and placed my order which was like sixty bucks’ worth of Taco Bell. It’s a lot of food, don’t get me wrong. It’s not all for me.

“So I placed my order and the car in front of me pulls up to the pay window.

"I’m on my phone and I just hear a car door slam and I look up and this lady gets out of it, has gotten out of her car in front of me, and is running towards my car screaming her head off.

“I couldn’t make out what she was saying at first, so I rolled up my windows and locked the door because I was scared - but I could hear what she was saying eventually and I heard, ‘scam’.”

Donovan went on to explain that once the woman stopped screaming the story actually became ‘kind of funny’.

Meredith said she and the woman ‘had a little laugh’ about it later.

“Basically, the car before her paid for her meal,” she explained. “So she going to be a good person and pay for the car behind her, but I guess the car didn’t get behind her in time and it actually was my expensive order for all my food."

She then added: "But we had a little laugh and she apologized.”

The woman’s actions have divided opinions on TikTok, with one person commenting: “That's the chance you take when you do it.”

Another said: “Obviously not everyone set up for pay-it-forward. bad idea”

And a third commented: “Pay-it-forward Karen lol (the woman who screamed at her).”

While someone else wrote: “Stop the ‘pay-it-forward’ bs. If you want to help, order extra food and give it to the growing number of homeless people you're seeing on the streets.”
