We’d long suspected it was coming, but it’s nice to make it official. Sega and Relic Entertainment have finally announced Warhammer 40, 000: Dawn of War 3.
We don’t have any actual gameplay or screenshots to go over just yet, but what we do have is a rather lovely (and moody) CG trailer.
Executive producer Stephen MacDonald has been talking the game up:
This is the Dawn of War that fans have been waiting for. Our biggest units ever? Check. Giant orbital lasers? Check. Base-building, epic heroes, huge battles, it’s all in there. Get ready for the biggest Dawn of War yet. For the Emperor!
The first Dawn of War was more of a traditional Real Time Strategy game on a large scale, while the sequel favoured a focus on micro-management. It sounds like Dawn of War 3 will attempt to combine the best of both worlds, which should please everyone if they pull it off (or nobody at all if they don’t).
Dawn of War 3 comes seven years after its predecessor, so I imagine fans of the franchise are good and ready for their next adventure.
Check out the trailer below, which clues us in on some of the races we’ll be playing as. Space Marines, Eldar and Orks all feature.
Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War 3 is due out on PC in 2017, and is the first main game that Relic are producing as a Sega owned studio.
