Woman Stunned By Email Congratulating Her On Massive Rent Increase

Katelyn was not impressed by the offer, it will not surprise you to learn

A woman was sent a message by her landlord 'congratulating' her for having her rent doubled.

Katelyn Nasser, from Austin, Texas, took to TikTok to share the message she received informing her of the increase.

In a short post, she explained that her tenancy was up for renewal and she was told that if she wanted to carry on living in the same place, her rent would be going up from $2,200 to $4,678. Yikes.

And if that wasn't enough, to add salt to the wound, the email actually 'congratulated' her on the fact she was being asked to pay an extra $2,478 a month.

She posted the video to her page, with the caption: "They really said GTFO [get the f**k out]"

Since the video was posted, it has been viewed more than 70,000 times, with hundreds of people piling into the comments to share their utter horror.

One user wrote: "The audacity to write "congratulations" in the email," to which Katelyn replied: "HAHAHAHA I FELT THAT TO MY CORE."

Another also chimed in: "Austin is wild now – might as well just try to buy a house now, unless the Californians beat you to it. "Good luck."

"Wait is this actual or a typo? I moved from Austin to LA and even MY rent is not this much?" asked a third.

Katelyn replied, saying that's exactly what she thought.

"I literally emailed them asking if it was a typo," she said.

In a follow-up video, Katelyn explained that she did get back to her landlord in the end, sending the congratulations straight back. Instead, she and her husband decided to move out.

She added: "Yes it’s true our rent almost doubled. Yes we are moving out. The end."

But it's not just Katelyn's landlord who has been caught trying to pull a fast one of late.

The Facebook ad was taken down the next day.

A property owner in Toronto, Canada, recently attempted to rent out three individual beds in one room for a ridiculous price.

They posted an ad on Facebook for a room to rent for $420 per month, with WiFi and utilities included, as well as a nice pizza place nearby.

That's $420 a month for one bed. A single bed, next to two other beds, in what appears to be the basement.

But don't fret, because the room comes with two patio chairs and a table, so you could work out a schedule with your roommates to work out who gets to be the king of the castle every night.

It won't surprise you to know that the members of the group weren't too impressed with the offer and reported it.

The post was deleted the next morning.
