Taking to X on Saturday morning, Lauren penned her final tweet as she bid farewell to her followers.

"This will be my last tweet," she wrote.

"Thanks for the love, everyone. I’m going to rest a bit more and be with my loved ones. Enjoy a last morbid meme from me."

Along with the post was a picture of a kid wearing sunglasses and flashing a thumbs up while sat with a medical professional.

The meme read: "Me getting euthanized."

The post has since been labeled as 'classically Lauren' by those who have been following her story.

"Cool exit. Goodbye, dear Lauren," said another.

Others sent their well wishes to the 28-year-old in her final hours.

Someone wrote: "Hello dear Lauren. Have a few loving last hours. Thank you again for everything you have done for our community."

A second said: "Have a beautiful last few hours," as another added: "May you find your peace."

As well as posting to X, Lauren also shared a final blog post to her website.

"In this blog post I want to share some things I have learned in my life, advice that I would have liked to hear myself at one point or another. Do what you want with it, I'm just throwing it out into the world," the heartbreaking post read.

Lauren proceeded to list several things including: Don't be afraid to be vulnerable, invest in a good mattress and pillow, be yourself, and keep a diary.

Following her death, the late content creator's family posted a statement to her page.

It read: "Lauren passed away peacefully at 1.55 pm in the presence of her parents Leonie and Peter and her best friend Lau.

"We would like to thank you for your compassion and support.

"Leonie, Peter and Lau."

Lauren described her pets as her 'world'.

The Dutch Euthanasia Act came into force in 2002 and details guidelines that allow physicians to perform euthanasia at the request of a patient.

As per the Government of the Netherlands' website, 'euthanasia is the most explicit and is performed only when the patient has clearly expressed the wish to die'.

It adds: "Under Dutch law, any action intended to terminate life is in principle a criminal offence. The only exemption from criminal liability is where a patient is experiencing unbearable suffering with no prospect of improvement and the attending physician fulfils the statutory due care criteria."

In 2022, there were 8,720 reported cases of euthanasia in the Netherlands.
