After an onlooker shouted the immortal phrase “You ain’t no Muslim, bruv” at the knife attacker in Leytonstone station in London over the weekend, the words have captured the minds of the nation.
The hashtag #YouAintNoMuslimBruv even trended on Twitter on Sunday, as Britain united in the face of the attack and denounced the use of Islam to justify terrorist attacks.
So, given how popular the phrase has proven to be, we all knew it was only a matter of time until UK Prime Minister David Cameron attempted to piggyback off the soundbite.
In fact some were predicting the cringe-worthy moment an Eton-educated politician would attempt London slang for at least 24 hours before it came to pass.

And when it did happen in the PM’s speech in the Midlands earlier today, it was just as awful as we expected.
David Cameron just said: "You ain't no Muslim, bruv" and here's the proof https://t.co/35dbWeniFs

Thanking the man who spoke the phrase in Leytonstone, Cameron said:
Some of us have dedicated speeches and media appearances, and soundbites and everything to this subject but ‘you ain’t no Muslim, bruv’ said it all, much better than I ever could and thank you [to the person who said it originally] because that will be applauded all around the country.
And as soon as the news broke that Cameron had uttered the phrase, the internet completely (and understandably) lost its collective shit…

To be clear: no one asked David Cameron for his views on #YouAintNoMuslimBruv. He volunteered them

Can anyone at BBC News / Sky justify why they've yet to show Cameron saying "You Ain't No Muslim Bruv"? Disgusting. The world needs it.

It's right of Cameron to praise #YouAintNoMuslimBruv, but it's also right to laugh at him saying bruv.

Sure, people are having fun with David Cameron saying #YouAintNoMuslimBruv but wait until the papers realise Corbyn HASN'T said it. #SNUB

To be clear, David Cameron has used the phrase 'you ain't no muslim bruv.' The phrase has now been retired from circulation. Please pass on.
