Award-winning actor Matthew McConaughey has spoken out in favour of Donald Trump amidst a sea of negativity.

The talented actor has had enough of his fellow celebrity friends slamming Trump, so he sent out a powerful message advising them to halt their heavy criticism, according to the Daily Mail.

The Wolf of Wall Street actor who’s set to star in new film Gold soon, appeared on The Andrew Marr Show to share his words of wisdom.

He told the political presenter it’s time for Hollywood to ’embrace and shake hands’ with the new president and encouraged them to come to terms with his new role.

The outspoken star told the BBC show, he thought the way in which Trump gained power and rose to the top is ‘as divisive of an inauguration’ as ever.

The presenter questioned McConaughey on whether he thought his celebrity mates should cut Trump some slack and accept the new president.

He responded with:

They don’t have a choice now, he’s our president.

He then continued to explain why he thinks it’s time his film friends make peace with the situation and deal with the changes America is currently going through.

He told the presenter:

And as divisive of a time and Inauguration as we’ve had, at the same time, it’s time for us to embrace. Shake hands with this fact, be constructive with him over the next four years.

Even those who most strongly disagree with his principals or things he’s said or done, which is another thing, we’ll see what he does compared to what he has said, no matter how much you disagreed along the way, it’s time to think how constructive can you be.

Heavy stuff from the BAFTA winning actor…

I wonder how that’ll go down with his Hollywood pals…
