It seems the French are such big fans of Barack Obama, they’ve set up a petition to make him the new president of France.

The French election is set to take place in April, with the current candidates’ campaigns well under way, although these don’t seem to be so appealing to everyone…

In response to their unfavourable selection, the Obama17 petition has been created, in the hopes the ex-president of the states will run for the French office, NPR reports.

Hundreds of posters have been seen strewn around Paris, aiming to entice a million people to sign up to try and persuade Barack Obama into standing for French presidency.

The website’s slogan states:

Oui on peut

This translates as ‘Yes we can’ and alongside it, they praise Obama highly, claiming he ‘has the best resume in the world for the job.’

The petition site reads:

We wish to strike a blow by electing a foreign president at the head of our beautiful country.

Barack Obama has completed his second term as president of the United States… why not hire him as president for France?

Those behind the petition claim it was initially started as a joke because of the public’s distrust of the French government, but it’s clearly escalated…

They told NPR anonymously:

We were thinking about French politics and saying that we were fed up with the fact that we all the time had to vote against someone and how it would be cool to be able to vote for someone we admire. We came up with Obama,’ one creator said.

It’s definitely a joke. But it could make people think a little bit about what we could do differently in French politics… the idea was to make people wake up.

Interesting idea, although there are a few fundamental flaws to their plan including the fact Obama would have to learn the language and be a french citizen…

It’s probably a no then isn’t it lads…

But hey you never know, Obama may be missing being in charge so much, he might just give it a go.
