CCTV Footage Of Rudy Giuliani Being 'Assaulted' Shows What Actually Happened

The former Mayor of New York claims that he could have 'died' during Sunday's altercation at a grocery store

Rudy Giuliani, the former Mayor of New York City and one-time personal lawyer to Donald Trump, was involved in an altercation at a grocery store on Sunday night.

New CCTV footage from the ShopRite store on Staten Island shows what actually happened during the incident, which Giuliani claims could have resulted in a fatal fall.

You can watch it below:

As Business Insider reports, the 78-year-old suggested that he was assaulted there while he was campaigning for his son Andrew - who is in the race to become the next Governor of New York.

"I feel a shot on my back like somebody shot me. I went forward, but luckily I didn't fall down," Giuliani senior stated on the Curtis Sliwa radio show.

"The guy says words I can't repeat. You effin' whatever. And then he goes on and on and on yelling and screaming, he moves away, yelling and screaming. Things like 'You're gonna kill women.'

"I mean, suppose I was a weaker 78-year-old and I hit the ground, cracked my skull, and died."

Giuliani made similar claims to The New York Times about the incident, telling the paper: "My back hurts, but otherwise I'm able to walk and stuff like that."

Meanwhile, Andrew Giuliani immediately insinuated that the 'attack' was politically motivated.

The 36-year-old, who is aiming to become the GOP's candidate for New York Governor later this year, used the incident to highlight his policies on law and order in the US state.

"We will not be intimidated by left-wing attacks," he told NBC following the fracas.

"As Governor, I will stand up for law and order so that New Yorkers feel safe again."

However, some felt the CCTV footage contradicted Giuliani's account of the incident.

One Twitter user wrote: "Rudy gonna be hella mad when he finds out they already gave out the Daytime Emmy for Drama two days ago."

Another said: "It's a pat on the back."

A New York Police Department spokesperson told UNILAD: "On Sunday, June 26, 2022, at approximately 1524 hours. A 39-year-old male approached a 78-year-old male and slapped him in the midback while stating, 'What's up scumbag?'

"The 78-year-old male refused medical attention at the scene. The 39-year-old male was taken into custody."

The perpetrator has been named as Staten Island-native Daniel Gill, who has since been charged with assault.

A ShopRite spokesperson told UNILAD: "We are aware that an incident instigated by a store associate involving former Mayor Rudy Giuliani took place at our store on Staten Island on Sunday.

"Store security observed the incident, reacted swiftly and the police were notified. We have zero tolerance for aggression toward anyone."

UNILAD has contacted a representative for Rudy Giuliani for comment.
