In devastating news, two children have blown themselves up in a suicide attack at a Nigerian market.

Two seven year old girls have tragically killed themselves and one other in a suicide bombing in Maiduguri, injuring 18 people.

The horrific incident took place in Borno, which is in the stronghold of the Boko Haram.

No-one has claimed responsibility for this terrible attack yet, but the terrorist group Boko Haram are thought to be the force behind it.

The extremists regularly abduct and use women and girls to carry out the horrendous act, causing mass devastation, whereas boys are trained and brainwashed to fight.

One of the Maiduguri militia claimed he saw the two young children, just before the terrifying bombs were detonated.

He said:

They got out of a rickshaw and walked right in front of me without showing the slightest sign of emotion

I tried to speak with one of them, in Hausa and in English, but she didn’t answer. I thought they were looking for their mother

She headed toward the poultry sellers, and then detonated her explosives belt.

Since the terrorist group have a had a hold on the state in 2009, more than 20,000 people have been killed, with over 2.5 million having been displaced by the political turmoil.

This is the latest in a line of awful attacks, to have taken place in North East Nigeria over the weeks and months.

It comes after more than 45 people died and 33 injured in a double suicide attack by female bombers at another marketplace, this time in Madagali.

And in October, two more female suicide attackers, bombed a station for displaced people in the state, killing 17 people.

Thoughts are with all of those affected by these disastrous attacks.
