It’s been a while since we’ve heard any new music from Arctic Monkeys, but we know that 2018 is the year we’ve all been waiting for.
And now, the dulcet tones of Sheffield’s finest could be entering our earholes sooner than expected as Alex Turner has hinted that a new AM single is on the way ‘soon.’
The band have already started dropping the odd hint about just what they’re going to be up to in the coming months, but we’re yet to see any announcement of a UK tour.
There is a world tour though, with a handful of dates in Europe, so it’s only a matter of time before we see the Sheffield band in our local arenas.
But for now, all we know is that we’re getting a new single. ‘How?’ I hear you ask. Well, straight from Turner himself – when asked by fan William Hann.
Hann bumped into Turner and asked him a slew of questions, though Turner said he would ‘give nothing away’ about upcoming UK dates, but did say a new single is on the way ‘soon’.

Hann took to Twitter to say:
Just met Al again. I can confirm the beard remains, but he gave away nothing about UK dates and said the single would be ‘soon’.
The band are also gearing up to play a ‘string of massive homecoming shows’ in their native Sheffield this summer, according to reports.
The band have been busy recording their sixth album, which is expected to drop this year, but will also have a hectic summer playing a series of festivals across the world including just the one in the UK.

But now the rumour mill is rife after notices have been put up in Hillsborough Park stating SJM Concerts are planning an event in September, providing live music and the sale of alcohol on four dates.
Obviously this has people incredibly excited with fans suggesting it ‘must be them’ since Arctic Monkeys have been on a sort of hiatus for some time now.
Last year, Arctic Monkeys bassist Nick O’Malley confirmed the news the band had started recording their eagerly-awaited new album.
Drummer Matt Helders had previously been reported to have told a fan that new material would be coming out later in 2017 – which never ended up happening.
O’Malley however said the album will come out in 2018.
Their fifth and latest studio album AM came out in 2013 to critical acclaim. It was nominated for the Mercury Prize and hailed the Best Album of 2013 by the NME.
Commercially it was one of the band’s most successful releases to date, topping the charts in several countries, but not quite outselling their debut Whatever People Say I Am, That’s What I’m Not, in the UK at least.
But with all the hype they’ve been building for the upcoming album, that might all change.
