She’s still a rockstar and she’s got her rock moves and she don’t need anything apart from a Hollywood Star on the Walk of Fame.
I am, of course, talking about P!nk – real name Alecia Beth Moore – the singer and songwriter who voiced a generation of millennial kids from broken homes and went on to use her platform to become outspoken pop royalty.
She’s sold more than 90 million records, won three Grammys, a Brit, an Emmy, an MTV Video Music Award and been named Pop Artist of the Decade by Billboard.
So, it’s only right, just and about bloody time P!nk got her very own shiny star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
The 39-year-old said:
This is surreal. It has been a trip lately thinking back over the course of this career I’ve somehow managed to have.
I signed my first record deal 23 years ago. I have achieved exactly what I wanted to achieve. Because I always knew what my strong points were.
She went on to explain the unique position she hold within an industry which, still, so often objectifies female artists.
Undoubtedly, P!nk was an artist who paved the way for other female singers who didn’t want tio be defined by their looks.
Accepting the award, she continued:
I don’t sell sex, I don’t sell perfume, I’m not the prettiest, I’m not the best. I’m fucking hard-looking and I have enough talent and I work on my fucking craft and I put my head down and I win.
And I charge and I charge and I charge. And I don’t give up.
So when I wasn’t selling records, I was still selling out arenas, I didn’t need to win any popularity contests; I wanted to be a fucking touring artist and I wanted to be great at what I did.
‘And at almost 40 years old, I can say I’m great at what I do’, she added:
The songwriter’s discography proves just how hard she grafts, first with girl band Choice and then with her initial R&B-influenced debut studio album Can’t Take Me Home, which was certified double-platinum in the United States and spawned two Billboard Hot 100 top-ten songs, including Most Girls.
She swapped her faux fur for fishnet fingerless gloves when she turned her attention to bangers with a heart, in the album Missundaztood, featuring Get the Party Started and Just Like a Pill.
The mum-of-two has since seamlessly transitioned into activism and continues to make catchy pop songs.
