Anthony Joshua is not just a world-dominating athlete from Watford.
The 27-year-old boxer is a man of the people, who still lives with mum in a council flat, and a man of his word, apparently.
Usually, pre-ring backchat is full of bluster and bravado, but Anthony Joshua stayed true to what he told Wladimir Klitschko before he delivered an ‘exorcism’ in front of 90,000 fans in the 11th round at Wembley.
Speaking to Colin Murray of Finchley Amateur Boxing Club, Joshua revealed the heated exchange between himself and Klitschko before they swapped bunches in the 11 round showdown.
I was talking to him and I just told him, ‘If you let me get through this round, I’m gonna fuck you up’.
And he said, ‘I’m going to knock you out’. It’s competition talk.
The heavyweight champion also analysed his knock-out final throw, saying:
I knew these two rounds were vital I knew it was close. I stepped it up, boom boom boom boom.
Subconsciously, I don’t know where it came from, I just whipped it up and saw his chin… it was like an exorcism where he’s looking at the back of the crowd.
He started trying to disguise when you’re hurt and I thought this is my chance to take him out and I just tried to land every punch, I threw the kitchen sink at him and I finally got him out of there in the end.
Joshua knocked the Ukranian legend down in the fifth but found himself in trouble when he hit canvas later in the bout. Joshua recovered, to deliver an electrifying boxing display of athelticism.
AJ proceeded to celebrate his £15 million win with a well-deserved nap.
