Conor McGregor Reveals Why He Attacked Referee At Bellator Event

Conor McGregor isn’t known as a man who plays by the rules of the game in any way.

That has never been more clear than on Friday night when ‘The Notorious’ jumped into the cage at Bellator 187 to celebrate with his teammate Charlie Ward after his victory over John Redmond.

After Ward handily dispatched his opponent, Conor McGregor leapt into the Octagon and had a heated confrontation with referee Mark Goddard.

Now McGregor has explained why he made the bold move and jumped into the Octagon.

In a now-deleted tweet about the incident, McGregor wrote:

Bloke KO’d on the floor bout a minute straight and ref trying to say fights not over conor. that’s when I lost it. Fuck yous all.

Goddard and McGregor have a long history of animosity after Goddard threw the Irishman out at UFC Gdansk.

Although it’s not known what was said in their face off, it seems McGregor wasn’t too pleased with Goddard’s reaction to his presence in the Octagon and wanted to give him a piece of his mind.

It could also be possible he wanted to get at him for chucking him out of the arena during the Andre Fili-Artem Lobov bout at UFC Gdansk.

Speaking to MMA Fighting Goddard says he kicked McGregor out because he was acting as a fourth cornerman for teammate Lobov, which he deemed unfair.

He went on to explain:

That’s not allowed. Imagine he had Conor talk him through a fight-ending sequence. Then what?

Conor was basically acting like a fourth cornerman.

Walking around the cageside wherever and whenever he wanted. When Fili took down Artem, Conor was right there.

That’s simply not fair and not allowed. I won’t have it. He can’t do as he pleases.

It looks like Conor didn’t get the message though as he turned up to Bellator 187 in Dublin to support Ward and get up in Goddard’s face at the same time.

As he was emotionally embracing Ward, Goddard tried to break it up, which McGregor didn’t appear to appreciate, and as McGregor got up he approached the official shouting some unheard verbals – which were most likely NSFW.

Recently, McGregor had also admitted he wants a rematch with Floyd Mayweather after his defeat in Las Vegas.

The UFC Lightweight Champion has said he would be up for another bout in the ring, but it won’t be the boxing ring if he gets his way.

McGregor wants to face off against Floyd in the UFC Octagon, as he reckons he’ll definitely get the upper hand this time around.

Conor made the statement during a recent Q&A in Glasgow, where he made the prediction he’d beat Mayweather during another boxing match, but would prefer to go toe-to-toe with him under MMA rules.

According to Conor, Maywather has already promised to have such a rematch under MMA rules, so it’s not out of the question.
