‘The Notorious’ Conor McGregor has said he’ll create a new form of sport which combines the disciplines of MMA and boxing after his fight with Floyd Mayweather.
The highly anticipated bout at the T-Mobile arena in Las Vegas is not until the weekend, but the Irishman is already looking past ‘Pretty Boy’ Floyd and looking to create his own hybrid of Boxing and MMA.
Speaking to Sky Sports at a press conference in Vegas, the UFC star said:
I might create my own hybrid of the two sports. Once I win this, I will relish the victory and then I will think who is next.
McGregor also issued a challenge to any fighter who thinks they’re man enough to step up to him:
I will fight anyone and I am still very young in my career.
I have been continually climbing up the ranks and it’s about levels in this game.
The sky is most certainly the limit.
McGregor also promised to make good on his prediction he’ll stop Mayweather within the first round this weekend – even more so now they’re fighting with 8oz gloves.
For someone who’s never had a professional boxing match in his life, he’s certainly not lacking in confidence.
I am very happy with how camp has gone, everything has been absolutely amazing and I thank my team – we are prepared for twelve three minute rounds of non-stop pace, I will come forward and put the pressure on and break this old man.
He has made a big error with the 8oz gloves, I now have the decision to end it inside one.
He messed up there – we usually fight in 4oz gloves and in eight, I will break through whatever is in front of me.
While many see this fight as a farce and an insult to boxing, McGregor has reiterated he’s taking this weekend’s fight ‘very seriously’.
‘The Notorious’ explained:
I will go out and perform.
I will beat this man at his own game – I am a different level to him.
When it’s all said and done I will be sad, you should have all kept your mouth shut, you should have left me where I was, he is not even a quarter of the man I am.
It’s also been revealed the winner of the fight will receive the newly created ‘Money Belt’ – it’s reportedly made using 3,360 diamonds, 600 sapphires, 300 emeralds and 1.5 kilograms of gold.
