Could You Have Made It As A Professional Footballer?

Everyone knows someone, or maybe you are one yourself, that thinks they could have made it as a pro footballer.

You know the type, think Jay from the Inbetweeners, but replace the “completed it mate” line with “could have completed it mate, but…”.

There’s some incredible stories out there, whether it be for a broken bone at a crucial time of development, a club going bust and losing its youngsters, or something like giving up the game to look after the kids and be a family man.

If you happen to be, or happen to know, one of these guys, then Magners has an offer for you. As part of their “Hoops and Dreams” competition, they’re giving you the chance to play at Celtic Park.

All you have is tell them how close you got to actually being a player, and what stopped you. If it impresses them enough, you could be invited for a 90-minute game at Celtic Park on May 15.

The teams will be made up of players who ‘could have made it’, meaning the standard will be decent, and all officials will be provided, so all you need to do is turn up and get your kit on (also provided) for a kickabout at Parkhead.

George Kyle, head of sponsorship at Magners said: “Magners Irish Cider is a proud supporter of Celtic FC and we’re delighted to be able to offer fans the chance to play on the pitch at Paradise to fulfil their “hoops and dreams”.

“Rather than continuing to bore your mates with tales of how you could have been a player, now is your chance to prove it. We look forward to reading through the stories of unfulfilled dreams and cheering on the players at Celtic Park on 15th May.”

If this sounds like a bit of you, get your applications in soon! The deadline for entries is Tuesday 8th May at 23.59, so you’ve got just over 24 hours to enter. Enter by following the link here.
