Cristiano Ronaldo is reportedly set to quit Real Madrid this summer following a decision that’s been described as ‘irreversible’.
According to The Telegraph the unexpected news was broken in Portugal by daily newspaper A Bola.
It follows a successful year on the pitch with both Portugal and Real Madrid, with the 32-year-old taking home a La Liga winner’s medal, retaining the Champions League, and scooping his first international honours as Portugal were victorious at the Euros last summer.
The former Manchester United man has recently become embroiled in controversy off the pitch, with it alleged the Los Blancos hitman defrauded Spanish authorities of 14.7 million euros in tax.
He denies the claims.
Ronaldo has reportedly informed the Madrid hierarchy and his teammates of his intentions to quit the Spanish giants.
Cue hordes of Manchester United fans heading to the bookies to place bets on an emotional return to Old Trafford after a move for Antoine Griezmann collapsed earlier in the summer.
