Defeat can be a bitter old pill to swallow, particularly when it comes to getting taken down a peg or two in the international sporting arena.

And no doubt many German fans will be reaching for the tissues as they consider what could have been after their brutal defeat against Mexico.

But in a strange turn of events, it seems German fans were also using their Kleenex to mop up something other than their tears of disappointment…

Sunday’s match, (June 17), saw Mexico win 1-0 against the 2014 World Cup champions, in an event so seismic, it actually caused a minor earthquake in Mexico City, due to fans leaping up and down for joy.

However, over in Germany, the only things shaking were fans’ hands as they twitched their curtains shut and fired up their laptops.

Yes. So often in grief, we humans turn to lust to prove we’re still alive, and in this case, German fans hit the porn big time.

According to Germany’s most prolific online porn providerAmaeteurcommunity.de, there was a surge in site traffic, peaking during and after the game at the Luzhniki Stadium.

At half-time, there was an influx of miserable Germans flooding the site, hoping to block out their blues with a bit of, erm, blue.

Indeed, Amaeteurcommunity.de revealed the traffic had been cranked up by 24 per cent. The same pattern was noted ten minutes before full time.

The level of use has been described as being exceptional when looked at besides a ‘regular’ Sunday.

Following their victory, Mexico’s coach Juan Carlos Osorio told reporters:

I always tell the players that I’m supposed to be the one who carries all the pressure. They just need to concentrate on the game and when they win, it’s their credit, and if we lose, it’s my fault.

That’s the way football is and today, they really focused on the beautiful game and they beat the world champions.

Germany’s coach, Joachim Low, said:

Why should I lose faith with my important players? My fundamental faith in those players will not be broken because of one game.

Of course, one or two might be on the bench, but I trust them because they’re still at a very high level. To question these players now would be fatal. Of course I don’t.

There is no point questioning our idea. There will be corrections, to address the mistakes, but there’s no doubting our playing style.

It’s good to know the Germans are finding some scraps of comfort after this unexpectedly difficult beginning to World Cup 2018.

Hopefully the lads on the German team will be able to keep up the levels of enthusiasm out o the pitch, shown by their fans.
