There aren’t many players that are more popular at Anfield than Mamadou Sakho.

He’s one of the very few players even non-Liverpool fans can like, but he could be set to leave the Reds this summer, after struggling with an Achilles injury.

Sakho picked up the injury early in pre season, and hasn’t been able to recover in time for either of Liverpool’s two Premier League games.

The former Paris Saint Germain centre back could head out on loan to get some much needed match fitness, before returning to Jurgen Klopp’s squad later in the year, according to the Daily Mail.

26-year-old Sakho was linked with an exit earlier this summer, as his constant pissing about with Snapchat got him booted off Liverpool’s tour of America.

In fairness, the Frenchman’s social media game is as strong as his defending, but Jurgen Klopp didn’t see the funny side as his antics, combined with his injury, got him a premature return from across the pond.

Klopp is happy to let Sakho leave temporarily, as he has new signing Ragnar Klavan and Dejan Lovren as defensive options, while Joel Matip is closing in on a return from injury.

Joe Gomez is also highly rated by his manager and has been earmarked to make an impact in the first team squad when he returns from the treatment table.

It’s not been a good year for Sakho, after he was banned for failing a drugs test earlier this year, before it emerged that he did not take any illegal substances.

That meant he missed the Europa League final, which Liverpool lost to Sevilla 3-1 back in May, and subsequently missed out on selection for France’s Euro 2016 squad.

He was linked with a move to Roma earlier this summer, but whether or not they’ll be interested in a loan move remains to be seen.

Surely it makes more sense to stay in the Premier League, with one of the teams expected to finish in the bottom half perhaps interested in the powerful centre back.
