Miss Italy Has Made A Surprise New Career Move

England’s own Toni Duggan isn’t the only female footballer heading to Spain this summer.

Add to that list, Martina Piemonte, who will be leaving AGSM Verona for Sevilla.

The 5ft 8in striker announced in an Instagram post that she she will be leaving her native country for the sun of Spain as part of Sevilla’s recruitment drive.

It follows news that Toni Duggan had left Manchester City to join Barcelona.

What separates the two strikers is that Piemonte used to be a Miss Italy contestant. As about a surprising career move as one can make.

She wrote:

After five years in Italy it is time to follow new goals that will bring me to Sevilla FC for next season.

I thank the Italian teams I have been part of, managers, mysterious, athletic trainees but more than all I thank my teammates who helped me to grow and mature as a person.

Toni Duggan hopes to become a Champions League winner after City lost out to Lyon in last season’s semi-final.

So happy to be joining the biggest club in the world @fcbfemeni #BeBarca ????

Speaking about her move, Duggan said:

I’ve been playing top flight football in England for nearly ten years and it felt like the perfect time. I’ve won everything I wanted to win and the one thing that is missing is the Champions League As soon as I met with Barcelona and heard about their plans, this was the move for me.

I’ve seen the facilities in Barcelona and they are second to none. The women train with the men’s team and the facilities are out of this world. To see it was amazing. I’ve got an opportunity to go there and didn’t expect that to happen. I feel very privileged to be a part of this massive club for the next two years.

Exciting times for women’s football.
