A new documentary detailing the night former WWE wrestler Chris Benoit killed his wife Nancy and son Daniel, before taking his own life, has been described as ‘honest’ and ‘excellent’ by his friend and fellow wrestler Chris Jericho.

Season two of VICE TV’s Dark Side of the Ring kicks off with a two-hour special, which covers not only that fateful night in 2007, but what led up to that point, too.

The two-parter includes interviews with those closest to Benoit, Chavo Guerrero, nephew of the late Eddie Guerrero, as well as Eddie’s widow, Vickie Guerrero, Dean Malenko and his wife, Nancy’s sister Sandra Toffoloni and Chris’ other son, David Benoit, as well as Jim Ross and Chris Jericho, who worked with Benoit in the ring for years.

Speaking to Complex about the documentary, which Jericho said was ‘quarterbacked’ by Chavo, the former AEW World Heavyweight Champion described it was ‘very cathartic to a lot of people’, adding that it was ‘a very honest portrayal of Chris and Eddie’s friendship, which led to both of them passing away very early.’

Now the episodes have been released, Jericho said no more films need to be made about the Benoit tragedy.

‘I think we should kind of put the cap on it,’ he said. ‘You know, after writing about it in books and all that other stuff. I think that the best way to kind of say what I felt, kind of just leave it at that.’

Both episodes of Dark Side of the Ring are available to watch on VICE TV now.
