News Anchors Caught Branding Novak Djokovic A ‘Lying, Sneaky A**hole’ On CameraAlamy/7 News

Two Australian news anchors branded Novak Djokovic a ‘lying, sneaky a**hole’ in a leaked video.

The world tennis number one has been the subject of controversy amid his fight to enter the country and compete in the Australian Open. The Federal Circuit Court overturned the decision to cancel his visa, but he’s still facing deportation and Border Force officials are investigating whether he lied about his travel movements.

In footage released without their knowledge, filmed while they were off-air, Channel 7’s Mike Amor and Rebecca Maddern slammed Djokovic and accused him of faking his border entry form.

‘Whatever way you look at it, Novak Djokovic is a lying, sneaky, a**hole,’ Maddern said. ‘It’s unfortunate that everybody else stuffed up around him. To go out when you know you’re COVID-positive – well, I don’t think he was even COVID-positive.’

Djokovic has since admitted to attending a children’s tennis event before receiving confirmation of his positive PCR test, before still going ahead with an interview the next day. ‘I didn’t want to let the journalist down, but did ensure I socially distanced and wore a mask except when my photograph was being taken,’ he wrote on Instagram.

‘You’ve got a bullsh*t f*cking excuse and then he fell over his own f*cking lies, which is what happens right? That’s what’s happened,’ Amor continued. ‘I think he’s going to get away with it… I think most fair-minded people would say, ‘The bloke’s an a**hole.’ Did they do the right thing by him? I don’t know. They f*cked it up. That’s the problem, isn’t it.’

Maddern then said she doesn’t think ‘anything was gained from putting him in immigration hotels… the fact is life is never fair. Some people fly first class… it’s never fair’.

Craig McPherson, Seven Network Director of News and Public Affairs, condemned the video’s release and pledged to find the leaker responsible.

‘The illegal recording was of a private conversation between two colleagues. It was an underhanded, cowardly act in breach of the Victorian Listening Devices legislation, the perpetrator of which will be accordingly dealt with when found,’ he said, as per news.com.au.

‘There has been an illegal recording of a private conversation. It is something that is going to be looked at and is being looked at thoroughly. We are going to have an outcome. What has happened here is illegal,’ he also told 3AW Radio.
