Premier League Footballer Arrested On Alleged Child Sex Offences Has Bail Extended
A Premier League footballer has had his bail extended for a third time as police continue to investigate allegations of child sex offences.
The footballer, who cannot be publicly named for legal reasons but is known to play for Everton, was arrested in July 2021 on suspicion of child sex offences and bailed shortly after pending further enquiries.
His bail was extended for the first time on October 19, then again earlier this week from January 16 until January 19. Greater Manchester Police have now confirmed the player will remain on bail until April 17.
He has not been formally charged with any crime.
Shortly after news of the arrest of a premier league star was revealed last summer, Everton confirmed it had suspended an unnamed player and was assisting the police with their investigation.
In a statement, the club said: ‘Everton can confirm it has suspended a player pending a police investigation.’
‘The Club will continue to support the authorities with their inquiries and will not be making any further statement at this time.’
No further details about the investigation or the allegations have been revealed.
